This application links two of the most powerful computer-based tools in the world of engineering. Real math--more than spreadsheet stuff--has always been a challenge for computers, partly because of notation issues, and partly because not many programmers are into mathematics.
At the same time, until the appearance of LabVIEW, instrument control had two flavors: arcane, or deeply specialized. LabVIEW brought the joy of on-screen "Erector-set" drag-and-drop graphics to instrumentation control.
This new bridge will open up the design of experiments to professionals who have a great deal to contribute, but lacked some narrow aspect of what they needed to control instruments in sophisticated ways.
At the same time, it gives real mathematicians access to the realm of engineering in unprecedented ways.
This much-needed bridge is nothing but good news, all along the abstraction chain.
